Graduating from a coding bootcamp during COVID-19

So, I graduated from a coding bootcamp back in late Feb and was ready to make my class...I mean…career change (excuse my gamer tendencies) to backline magical software developer from being a frontline customer software training warrior for years.

….but then we landed in a pandemic.

For about 2 months after Shelter in place went into full effect, work blew up, which was good and bad at the same time. Good, in the sense that I still had a job considering the lay offs and hiring freezes that were happening. Bad, in the sense that I was working till 8–9 PM and too afraid with the instability of companies that it wasn’t a good time to even consider a career change.

Now, months have passed and companies are starting to re-hire to the new norm. I needed to review coding, but it was like trying to pick up from a video game save file from where you left off mid-game months ago. You’re a bit rusty on the mechanics and you might fumble but all the knowledge is still there to play the game.

If you know this screen, let’s be friends. Seriously, I have none. (Also, FF7 ReMake is AMAZING)

I’ve been trying to come up with a good game plan to make this career change considering I need to brush up on a lot of coding and figure out a good regimen.

As of right now, I’m frantically spending time on HackerRank to brush up on Ruby and assess my level with it and working through some Javascript labs from from my bootcamp. Additionally, I’ve purchased InterviewCake through recommendation of a few friends, which is a GREAT deal right now!

I don’t know if there are other people out there who are feeling the same way or in a similar situation, but if you have any recommendations or ideas on some strategies to finally land a career as a software engineer, hit a home girl up.
